Daily recap
USA just had the best World Cup game in American history. Brazil is next.
The USMNT scored four goals in a World Cup game for the first time ever, Balogun is suddenly a household name, and Canada got its first-ever World Cup point. Oh, and today Brazil opens against Morocco. Buckle up.
TL;DR:USA beat Paraguay 4-1 in the greatest single World Cup game in USMNT history: Folarin Balogun scored twice in the first half, Gio Reyna added a stoppage-time stunner off the bench, and it was never really close. Canada drew 1-1 with Bosnia, with super-sub Cyle Larin equalizing in the 78th minute for Canada's first-ever World Cup point. Today (June 13): Qatar vs. Switzerland at 3 p.m. ET on Fox, Brazil vs. Morocco at 6 p.m. ET on FS1, and Haiti vs. Scotland at 9 p.m. ET on FS1.
Who won yesterday's World Cup games?
Day 2 delivered something most people didn't fully see coming: the USMNT being genuinely, undeniably great. Not “good for America” great. Capital-G great.
USA 4, Paraguay 1 — SoFi Stadium, Los Angeles
Paraguay handed the United States a gift in the 7th minute when Damian Bobadilla deflected a ball into his own net, and the US proceeded to treat it exactly the way you treat a gift: with zero chill. Folarin Balogun scored in the 31st minute off a Christian Pulisic assist, then scored again right before halftime to make it 3-0. Three goals before the half. At SoFi. In front of 70,492 people who had been saving up that noise for years.
Paraguay got one back in the 73rd minute through Maurício, which gave everyone about fifteen seconds of “wait, is this happening?” Then Gio Reyna came off the bench in stoppage time and answered with a trivela curled in with the outside of his boot. A trivela is the kind of shot that makes physicists uncomfortable. Final: 4-1. Balogun's brace was the first by a US player in a World Cup since 1930. Four goals is the most the USMNT has ever scored in a single World Cup match. Think the Chiefs putting up 38 in the first half of the Super Bowl while looking slightly annoyed. Remember the name: Folarin Balogun.
Canada 1, Bosnia-Herzegovina 1 — BMO Field, Toronto
Canada's first home World Cup game since 1986 went exactly the way Bills fans understand playoff games: trailing for an hour, teetering on heartbreak, escaping with a point that feels like a win because it technically is. Bosnia's Jovo Lukic headed in from a Sead Kolasinac flick in the 21st minute, and that scoreline sat like a stomach knot until the 78th. Then Cyle Larin came off the bench like someone who didn't read the scouting report, turned inside the box, and drilled his 31st international goal to equalize. Canada pressed for a winner in stoppage time. Didn't get it. But a draw is Canada's first-ever World Cup point, and BMO Field was shaking. Sometimes a draw feels like a win. This was one of those times.
Who plays today? (June 13, 2026)
Saturday has three games. Cancel your afternoon and evening. You won't regret it.
Qatar vs. Switzerland — 3 p.m. ET on Fox and Telemundo. Levi's Stadium, Santa Clara, CA. Qatar is the co-host nation. Switzerland is the European team that nobody talks about until they quietly win the group and everyone pretends they saw it coming. Your appetizer game.
Brazil vs. Morocco — 6 p.m. ET on FS1 and Telemundo. MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ. The headliner. Brazil opens their World Cup campaign against the team that reached the 2022 semifinal and refused to be awed by anyone. Full preview below.
Haiti vs. Scotland — 9 p.m. ET on FS1 and Telemundo. Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, MA. Scotland got here through the playoffs. Haiti is making just their second World Cup appearance ever. Both teams are desperate for points from minute one. Expect the kind of game where you're still watching at 11 p.m. for reasons you can't explain.
What's the must-watch game today?
Brazil vs. Morocco at 6 p.m. ET on FS1.It's not close.
Brazil hasn't won a World Cup in 24 years. The last time they did, you were carrying a flip phone and the Rams were still in St. Louis. Their front line is legitimately frightening: Vinícius Jr. is a Real Madrid superstar who gets triple-covered and scores anyway, and Raphinha (Barcelona) arrives off a 13-goal La Liga season with something to prove on the world stage. Neymar has been dealing with a calf injury in the run-up to this tournament, and his availability is uncertain. Brazil's ceiling is legendary. Their history of turning elite talent into uninspiring performances against disciplined defenses is also legendary.
Morocco is not a team that got here by accident. They reached the 2022 World Cup semifinal by beating Spain and Portugal back-to-back, which is the international soccer equivalent of winning two straight road games against the NFC's top seeds in January. This generation is younger and faster than that one. Ayoub El Kaabi scored 18 goals in 25 league games this season. Brahim Díaz (Real Madrid) creates chaos in tight spaces and makes defenders look like they forgot how legs work. Morocco presses hard, breaks fast, and genuinely does not care about your pedigree.
NFL analogy: Brazil is the Kansas City Chiefs, the name everyone knows with five championships and a roster full of stars, trying to shake off a 24-year trophy drought. Morocco is the 2022 Cincinnati Bengals: a squad full of guys you've never heard of, running a scheme that makes the big names look confused for 90 minutes. Brazil should win. That doesn't mean Morocco read the memo.
